About Kim Moberg:
Award winning songwriter Kim Moberg was born in Juneau, Alaska, the daughter of a classical pianist mother of Alaskan Native Tlingit (People of the Tides) descent and a US Coast Guard veteran father from Kansas. Her Tlingit name is Ḵ'ashg̱é (Still and Shines) and she of the Raven (Yéil) moiety, Sea Pigeon (T'akdeintaan) clan.

At the age of 14, Kim began playing acoustic guitar on a borrowed nylon 6 string, earning lessons by typing lyric and chord sheets for students who were taking guitar lessons from her mother. A few years later, she purchased a Gibson Epiphone guitar and taught herself to strum and finger pick to her favorite music from the '70's -- James Taylor, Jackson Browne, The Beatles, -- but debilitating stage fright kept her from pursuing her dream of becoming a professional performer. In 2014, after a hiatus from music to focus on a business career, marry and raise two daughters, Kim set out to overcome her stage fright and wrote her first song. Kim is now a professional singer/songwriter who performs both as a solo artist and in collaboration with other musicians.

Kim draws inspiration from both traditional and contemporary musical forms of Americana, Folk, and Country genres. A self taught finger pick style acoustic guitarist, Kim's passionate and heartfelt vocals mesmerize listeners while her compositions tug at feelings of melancholy, heartbreak and healing and speak to reunion, awakening and social consciousness.

Kim Moberg combines a lovely voice with a deep insight into the human experience.
Her songs evoke genuine emotional responses in the listener, as she carries on the acoustic folk tradition in the 21st century. ”
— Nick Noble, host of THE FOLK REVIVAL, WICN (Worcester Public Radio)
Dave.D.jpg

About Dave Dersham:
Dave Dersham’s songs are “marine” — according to anti-folk artist and occasional improvisatory slam poet, James O’Brien. Murky, cautionary tales of submerging archipelagos, Samoan pigskin heroes, unfolding eco-dystopia, the alliterative whimsy of pedestrian afternoons in rural, uber-academic Western Massachusetts — where Dave grew up and can’t seem to leave permanently, despite the irritating coupling of unreliable snow, mutating ever more quickly into the humidity of summer doldrums, trapped by the Holyoke Range, lingering the flood plains.

Dave completed “The Burn of Summer” (2003) in Somerville, MA, with the engineering assist of Jabe Beyer, Tim Kelly, and Tom Eaton. They, and a generous crew of remarkable talent, somehow got it all together, enabling the album to enjoy regular airtime on Folk Radio’s WUMB (UMASS/Boston) WERS (Emerson College), and a finalist selection for Mountain Stage's Emerging Artist competition.

“Gilding the Lilies” came out in 2011, recorded and accompanied by Lloyd Thayer and Jared Fiske. The 10 tunes were colored with lap steel, electric guitar, percussion, and keyboard. The work was distributed internationally.

Dave Dersham is a sly humorist, cultural critic, and melancholy optimist. A groover of uncanny rhythm, muted chords, and open-hearted tenderness.

A new (overdue) album will come in 2022, despite the insinuations of C-19.

“Dave Dersham’s songs are rich and earthy. Listen closely - you’ll catch
quick turns of phrase and wry humor in one song and honest and dark
explorations of the human condition in the next.
— Matt Smith, Club Passim

08.31.21 - Ruby Rose Fox - High Res-26.jpg

About the artist:
Chicago/Boston based artist Ruby Rose Fox is a cultural messenger of our turbulent modern times. Her music is as sonically compelling as it is subversive, packed with lyrics that reflect and challenge our current political state, from #metoo, to the mass-shooting crisis.

Part actress, director, and writer, Fox has never shied away from inventive ways to approach her art. In 2018, Fox released her sophomore album Salt, an utterly cinematic piece of experimental pop that features dense soundscapes built to accompany Fox’s wall-shattering vocals. Salt is the follow-up to Ruby Rose Fox’s debut album Domestic which reached number 8 on the Billboard Heatseekers chart and is featured on the game RockBand.

Celebrate the final weeks of this memorable summer at a blow-out party featuring a rare Outer Cape performance by Ken Field's Revolutionary Snake Ensemble. Called "one of the most successful combinations of booty-shaking & brain-stimulating music" by Splendid Magazine, the group is a funky, brass heavy, N'Awlins street beat band that has been listed as Nightlife Pick of the Week in The New Yorker.

Philly's WKDU noted that RSE "touches all the right cornerstones of jazz, but also funks my socks off!" And noted jazz writer and historian Ted Gioia asks on jazz.com: "Doctor, is there an antidote? I am having visions of Mardi Gras parties out of control. They call it a brass band, but there must be some voodoo in this music!"

Don't miss this great end-of-summer event on the lawn of Preservation Hall (or indoors in case of rain), and don't forget to wear your beads! You won't regret it!!

About the films:
Clay is an open letter to creatives everywhere in search of their own voice. Steve Kemp, a ceramic artist for over 40 years, explores his lifelong journey from apprentice to master. His unique voice and unwavering dedication to the craft have been carefully molded over time, influenced by lessons from his late teacher, shaped by the constant struggles encountered in life and love, and inspired by the natural beauty of Cape Cod.

2021Aug4_WhiteSpaceSOCIALSv2 (1).jpg

The Award winning White Space highlights the experiences of four women in white spaces on Cape Cod. Their stories are uniquely their own, but many people of color can relate to what these women experience. This film is about representation and what it feels like when a space is not welcoming or even hostile to people of color. It is about how people of color see and are seen in white spaces. How people of color see themselves in white spaces and what it takes to navigate those spaces. Even though white people are not the center of this story, white viewers can reflect on their own actions in white spaces and challenge themselves to exist as more than bystanders and to behave like the allies they think they are.

About the filmmaker:
Michael Cestaro created his Cape-based creative marketing company Up Above in 2015 after eight years of developing award-winning marketing campaigns and video and photography content for top industry agencies. Up Above came from the core belief that marketing content could be honest and still look beautiful. in addition to his work with Up Above, Michael has made two short documentary films, Clay and most recently the award-winning White Space. He lives on Cape Cod with his wife and two daughters

About Mozelle:
The immensely talented singer Mozelle Andrulot grew up in Eastham and attended Lesley University where she studied Liberal Arts. Here on the Cape, she’s performed at Mahoney’s, Tin Pan Alley, The Muse and Bootleggers in Provincetown, and has sold out shows at Wellfleet Preservation Hall and the Yarmouth Cultural Center. This “jazz jewel” has graced the stage with local notable jazz artists Bruce Abbot, Fred Fried and Doug Riccardi, among others!

Having paid homage to Miles and Coltrane with highly acclaimed concerts in 2018 and 2019, Joe Mongelli and the Cape Jazz Crew return this year with a Tribute to Art Blakey and the Jazz Messengers. Included in this concert are many of the Jazz Messengers' biggest hits including: Moanin’, Along Came Betty, The Preacher, It’s Only A Paper Moon, Doodlin’, Almost Like Being in Love, and many more.

As you’ve come to expect, this performance will feature meticulous re-creations of the original arrangements and inspired improvisation by Joe Mongelli (trumpet and flugelhorn), Scott Avidon (tenor sax), Mark Borgmann (piano), Michale Ryle (upright bass), and Mike Dunford (drums). Don’t miss this summer’s must-attend jazz concert!

A little bit of history behind the inspiration for this show:
For many, the late ‘50s and early ‘60s represent the most compelling era in jazz. Iconic recordings were being made by the likes of Miles Davis, John Coletrane, Sonny Rollins, Clifford Brown and many other important artists too numerous to mention. Top among the list of ‘other important artists’ of that era is Art Blakey - one of the most influential drummers and band leaders for over 40 years! His band, the Jazz Messengers, produced dozens of memorable and critically-acclaimed recordings. More importantly, the Jazz Messengers was a powerful incubator and showcase for rising stars, most of whom went on to have stellar careers of their own as leaders. Featured trumpeters included Lee Morgan, Kenny Dorham, Freddie Hubbard, Woody Shaw, Wynton Marsalis, and even Chuck Mangione. Sax legends Sonny Rollins, Johnny Griffin, Benny Golson, Jackie McClean and Hank Mobely all did stints with the Messengers. Notable pianists who played with the Messengers include Horace Silver, Cedar Walton, Mulgrew Miller and Bobby Timmons.

Cold Chocolate is a genre-bending Americana band that fuses folk, funk and bluegrass to create a unique sound all their own. Led by Ethan Robbins (vocals/guitar) and Ariel Bernstein (percussion), the Boston-based group released their third full-length album, Down The Line, in the summer of 2020. “We're growing as a band and as individuals, and I think that shows in our songwriting,” says Robbins. “I see this album as a leaping off point for many more new albums to come, and that's an exciting prospect.” Bernstein adds: “I think this album is the best representation of who we are as musicians to date. We had so much fun putting it together and felt no restrictions or expectations on the songs we wrote.”

Punctuated by tight harmonies and skillful musicianship, Cold Chocolate has quickly gained recognition for their original music and high-energy shows. The band has shared bills with Leftover Salmon, David Grisman, and Angelique Kidjo, and regularly performs at venues and music festivals up and down the East Coast. Jason Verlinde of The Fretboard Journal who covered the band’s FreshGrass Festival set noted “there were plenty of magical moments…I will never forget [watching] Cold Chocolate perform…” Kathy Sands-Boehmer of No Depression raved, "[Ethan] feels the music in his heart and soul and it shows when he plays. Ethan becomes the music on stage. There’s an almost mystical connection between his guitar and the notes that flow out of it."

Tickets $15 General Admission
Buy tickets HERE

Alex Brewer will play a solo show of all original material. A former summer visitor, Brewer has called the Outer Cape home since 2012. Thematically, Brewer’s songs range across a wide spectrum, from challenging, thought-provoking topics such as police corruption to the more abstract and whimsical, such the psychology of a thoroughbred racehorse. Alex has a unique style all his own, an authentic voice unafraid to explore varying terrains, while always staying true to his down-to-earth, yet decidedly offbeat nature. For those who savor precise and powerful lyrics, this show should not be missed.

Alex’s 3 albums- Practical Matters, Unquoted, and Denim Dharma - are available on Spotify, Apple Music, and all other streaming services.

Outdoor Staged Reading: The Fourth Wall *Fri. 5/14*

Friday May 14th at 4pm, in the backyard:

Wellfleet Preservation Hall presents a staged reading of A.R. Gurney’s  “The Fourth Wall”
This is a free event with advance registration required. Bring a lawn chair or blanket for seating.

Register HERE

Directed by John Shuman, who previously directed  “The Open House” by Will Eno and Gurney’s “The Love Course” for the Hall. All local cast!

About the playwright:
A. R. Gurney was a prolific and popular playwright whose plays include  “Sylvia”, “The Dining Room” and “Love Letters”.  He often explored  dramatic techniques that produced innovative  forms  to tell his story . In many of his  plays the audience has a role in the proceedings. Their presence is a part of the play. This meta style led to Gurney ultimately tackling this form head-on as he does in “ The Fourth Wall”. The fourth wall is a theatrical convention for the space between the audience and the actors on stage.  The actors can not see thru  nor are aware of the wall- the audience can.  In this hilarious and moving play four characters attempt to “get through” the wall and fathom why they are there behind it.  The dilemma compares to what all humans do in attempting to comprehend their lives.

This program is supported in part by a grant from the Wellfleet Cultural Council, a local agency which is supported by the Massachusetts Cultural Council, a stage agency.

After Hours at the Hall with Jordan Renzi *Held over until 4/16*

Enjoy this LCTV After Hours concert filmed live at the Hall for a limited time, right here!

Local artist Jordan Renzi performs her beautifully crafted original songs with accompaniment from Luke Massough (drums) and Mike Machaby (guitar), recorded live by Lower Cape TV on the Hall stage. Listen out for her brand new single!

About Jordan:
An acclaimed and sought-after musician on the Cape (and beyond) music scene, Wellfleet-based Jordan Renzi crafts dreamy, contemplative folk-inspired-but-not-exactly-folk songs that drift and hang on the breeze like an inviting hammock on a late summer evening. She has been invited to open for Kate Taylor, Paula Cole, Patty Larkin and Marc Cohn, and has won and been nominated for several local awards, including the Arts Foundation of Cape Cod 2017 Fellowship in Performing Arts.

A fusion of 60's era folk and contemporary soul typified Jordan’s first album “Waterman”. She went on to produce a sophomore album, “Just A Dream” that was released in September 2019 on local label Billingsgate Records. “Just A Dream” featured gauzy, layered melodies and showcased Jordan’s understated, beautifully nuanced vocal style - a true standout in the current sea of “belt it out” indie emo-folksters. Her single “Bird” was released Jan. 2020. New work is coming, so stay tuned!

Check out more of Jordan’s music HERE

Big thanks to our friends at Lower Cape TV for their part in this project, and for the work they do to support & showcase artists on Cape Cod

Jimmy Tingle’s 20/20 Vision is a funny, thought provoking and hopeful look at contemporary life and politics through the experience of comedian, commentator and 2018 candidate for LT Governor of Massachusetts, Jimmy Tingle.

The show will help answer the question “why would a comedian run for office” as it illuminates the 2018 campaign of Jimmy Tingle with passion, purpose and a sense of humor.

As the nation grapples with the results of the presidential election of 2020, Humor for Humanity will entertain, enlighten and challenge the audience to move beyond the current politics of divided government, Trumpian tweets and the nightly news cycle and into the realm of long-term thinking and life affirming possibility.

About the 2020 MANHATTAN SHORT Film Festival:

MANHATTAN SHORT is the only event of its kind. The “Final Nine” screen simultaneously across the world during a one-month period, with the Best Film and Best Actor awards determined by ballots cast by the audiences in each participating venue.

This year's Final Nine selections use drama, comedy and animation to address an astonishing number of themes, ranging from identity to parenthood to the seemingly universal frustration caused by the Department of Motor Vehicles no matter the country. The directorial voices are both male and female from countries large and small, often inspired by personal and sometimes harrowing, experience. This year's Final Nine screening also is a rare instance when gripping dramas from Iran, Israel, and the State of Palestine are featured in the same program.
